Born the second of five children to John H. and Susie Mendez Schroder, John grew up in a traditionally conservative New Orleans Catholic family. This is where his strong beliefs in faith, family and commitment were rooted-values John has passed to his own children.
John graduated from East Jefferson High School and earned a criminal justice degree from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1984. He served his country by joining the U.S. Army where he began his law enforcement career. John worked his way from military intelligence to become one of only 1,000 special agents in the Criminal Investigation Division (CID).
During the 18 years that followed, he spearheaded narcotics investigations in western Ascension Parish for the Sheriff's Office, assumed responsibility for his father's real estate holdings, began developing residential communities and commercial property of his own, and opened several small retail businesses on the Northshore.
Through his experience fighting crime on the federal and local levels, John knows that a strong law enforcement community will enhance our economic development opportunities and increase our quality of life.
And through his experience in business, he knows that reducing the tax burden on small businesses and working families is the best way to keep our economy moving forward.
Today, John is a successful entrepreneur and community leader who devotes countless hours to the needs of Hospice, The United Way, and the Chamber of Commerce to name but a few.
He coached Dixie Youth Baseball and served on the New Directions 2025 Task Force - further proof that John believes strongly in supporting our young people and balancing our area's growth.
Forever the sportsman at heart, John has served as commentator and reporter for many of the Northshore's schools sports teams and is an avid booster club member of local schools and universities.
John and his wife of 22 years, Ellie Daigle Schroder, have two children, Brittany, 20 and John Michael Schroder, Jr., 18. The Schroders call Covington their home and attend St. Peter's Church.
